Legends of the Seas Slot Review
Lots of people past the second grade know Neptune is the fourth-largest planet in the Solar System. However, a few less are aware it is also the Roman god of the sea as well as a prominent icon in the Novomatic video slot game Legends of the Seas. This review investigates the role played by Neptune in making a fun slot game.
Game Setup
The visual design of Legends of the Seas (not to be confused with the much less visually impressive Legends of the Sea) is sleek and dynamic. It has a photorealistic blue sea background, perhaps representing the Tyrrhenian Sea off the coast of Italy, and displays a young, ripped Neptune prominently throughout the game, standing on the left side of the reels holding his signature trident. The trident is a three-pronged staff that Neptune puts to good use during gameplay, as will be discussed in a bit.
Neptune, or its Greek mythology counterpart Poseidon, is characterized as a vengeful, often violent character, reflective of the unforgiving nature of the sea. In the game Legends of the Seas, however, his depiction is much more positive. Certainly, his frequent “gifts” to help the player get winning combinations during gameplay implies goodwill and generosity.
The minimum bet is 0.40 per spin, so low ballers can feel comfortable playing this appealing game for a while. The maximum bet is 100.00 per spin for those feeling lucky.
Gameplay
The reels are arranged in a 5×4 matrix across 40 pay lines that displays, among others, the J, Q, K, and A playing card symbols for royalty. It is quite typical of video slots, unlike simpler games such as Reactoonz with its 7×7 grid instead of reels, which nevertheless have similar RTPs.
Anyway, other higher-paying symbols include sea horses, dolphins, and turtles. The symbols that players would like to see the most, however, are Neptune himself and mermaids, which can multiply the line wager by 10 when 5 slides into sight in a line.
The mermaid also serves as the scatter symbol, which can help trigger the free spin feature. The golden oyster wild card can take on the same symbol as adjacent ones except for the Neptune and mermaid cards.
Payouts
Nine symbols on the Legends of the Seas paytable can show up in stacks. The A, K, Q, and J cards are low-paying symbols, worth 2x the line wager with 5 matching symbols.
More interesting symbols than the play cards are the creatures of the sea. Five matching turtles, sea horses, or dolphins are worth 3x the line wager. Five in a line mermaids and symbols of Neptune are worth 10x the line wager. The wild symbol is a golden oyster full of gleaming pearls, which can come just in the nick of time to tie in non-adjacent matches.
Features
During the base game, Neptune can randomly splash the reels with water using the trident and activate the special Neptune Cluster feature. This creates from four to nine matching symbols on the reels, greatly increasing the chances of a high-paying combo. Neptune freezes into a statue after bestowing a Neptune Cluster, at which point the player should not expect another one until Neptune unfreezes after a few more spins.
Aside from winning combos, Legends of the Seas has a free spin feature. The full representation (stacked) of a mermaid can cover three positions in reel 4 of the base game, while a full representation (stacked) of Neptune can likewise appear in reel 2 in the base game. When both figures in their full glory appear in a spin, this triggers the free spin feature, and the player will receive 10 free spins that come with a multiplier of 10 for each spin.
Aside from the multiplier feature, each of the free spins can come with one of three special features. A special scatter symbol of Neptune and a mermaid embracing appearing in the third reel means two extra spins. The Neptune Cluster might also activate in one or more spins, or any of the outlying reels (not including the middle reel) might change into a wild reel.
Players can also choose to activate the Gamble button, which comes out following a winning combo during the free spin round. They come up against Neptune in a guessing card game. If a player can guess the colour of the card correctly, it results in doubling the winnings. However, a wrong guess will result in a forfeit of the winnings.
Legends of the Seas Slot Review Verdict
Legends of the Seas by Novomatic is eye-candy in the realms of video slot machines. The sleek design and striking symbols are sure to make the gameplay an entertaining one. The soundtrack is also epic, but not enough to be overly distracting.
Design aside, Legends of the Seas is a bit above the herd when it comes to Novomatic offerings. Aside from its essential free spins feature, it has a better than average 96.09% RTP, and the random bonus features such as the Neptune Cluster is guaranteed to keep the play interesting.
The big issues with the game are its medium volatility, lack of a jackpot, and a maximum multiplier of 10, which together makes it less likely for big payouts to happen. Players with an eye for a big win might consider that. However, for those out for a bit of fun with a game with great graphics and some decent payouts, Legends of the Seas is a good choice.
