Novomatic’s latest addition to its horror-themed video slot games is amazing! The game is one of the four horror-themed video slots called Tales of Darkness. The other titles in this series are Break of Dawn, Midnight Heat, and Full Moon. In this game of the series, Tales of Darkness: Lunar Eclipse, we meet the chillingly beautiful raven-haired woman who turns into a vampire every time there is a full moon.

Gameplay
Unlike most other Novomatic slots games, Tales of Darkness: Lunar Eclipse is a 6-reel, 10-payline game. This is both an advantage as well a disadvantage. The plus is that you get to land bigger wins, but the disadvantage is that getting those big wins is an even bigger challenge.
This game has 4 low-value symbols – the royals (J, Q, K, and A). The higher-value symbols are two beautifully designed rings (an Emerald Ring and a Sapphire Ring), the human form of the Mistress of Darkness and the highest value symbol is the Mistress of Darkness’ vampire form. You also have other special symbols, but we will talk about them in greater detail in the next section.
You start the game by placing your wager. The lines are fixed, so you just need to adjust the bet amount in the Total Bet tab at the bottom of the game screen. If you’re planning to play big, then simply click on the Max Bet tab and click Start. You can also use the Autoplay feature if you like.
Winning in this game isn’t as easy because of the 6 reels. You only get the big payouts if you manage to land 5 or 6 winning combinations, which can honestly get a little frustrating.

The Full Moon Symbol
The Full Moon symbol acts as both the Wild as well as the Scatter. As the Wild, it substitutes all symbols on the reels. As the Scatter, it triggers the Free Spins bonus feature. Additionally, it also can appear on all 6 of the game’s reels. Landing 3, 4, 5, or 6 of this symbol on the reels wins you 2x, 10x, 50x, and 200x your bet!

Lunar Eclipse Bonus Feature – Once you have activated the Free Spins feature, the Lunar Eclipse Bonus feature comes into play. In this feature, one of the special symbols is randomly chosen and it replaces the original symbols that appear on the reels. This special symbol is stacked, so that means that your chances of winning go up significantly. However, this replacement symbol will only appear in the 2nd and 5th reels. And when it does appear, it expands sideways to cover two positions on the adjacent reels. This gives you an even bigger opportunity to win since it expands across paylines rather than along the reels.
In the base game, you can only land winning combinations from left to right. However, when the bonus game is activated, you can win both ways. The only proviso is that if you land a 6-combination win, then you will only get paid out for the left to right win. You can win another 10 Free Spins if you manage to land another 3 (or more) Scatters.
Game Design
In terms of visuals, this is a breathtakingly beautiful game – even though the developer hasn’t really changed its design from the previous games of this Tales of Darkness series.
The background is the same as previous games but now it’s a deep, menacing purple, and the familiar black iron gates are present. Also, the colour change is to show the power of the female vampire who is the main character in this game. Low-value symbols are the 4 royals that have been crafted in the Gothic style. Furthermore, the high-value symbols, the 2 types of rings, the vampire in her human form, and then when she is a vampire are beautifully drawn. Finally, the soundtrack of this is spine-chilling – eerie and perfectly perfect for this type of game!
